One Acts Opening Night

Opening night was CRAZY. Not only did i have to make 3 pages of a to do list/reminder list to prepare myself for thrursday but adding all the uncalled for chaos made it insane. I got to school at 8 am and was there until 9 pm, thats a 13 hour workday, too bad i dont get paid. With the help of the techies we got everything done, and still had energy to consume delicious ice cream sandwiches at the end of the night. I cant even remember everything i did on thursday.

I’ll make a list (I had help doing all of these things) :

Set up the lobby, concession, ticket sales tables
Setup makeup and hair stations
Reorganized changing areas
Made signs for show order, bathrooms, changing rooms
Setup an eating area
Lectured casts and directors
Made a mix cd of songs to be played before the show and during intermission
Made a “Break A Leg” sign for the actors
Fixed mulitple costume disasters
Cleaned changing rooms at the end of the night
Yelled at cheerleaders to stop running loudly through the school
Hushed attendees of the swim team meeting
Passed out ice cream sandwiches
Reminded actors and directors of the progress of the show
Make sure programs were stapled

That’s all i can think of off the top of my head, but im sure there was more. I am going to be at the “B” night showing this coming thursday, where i will also being doing the turn off your cell phone skit with Jane Gerber. Having already done one night with the largest amount of one act participants EVER im positive i can be successful another day. i wish i could’ve helped during all nights of performance, but unfortunately my busy schedule did not allow for that to happen. Next show will be Into the Woods, which will be another world itself. Im pretty sure im gonna get the program done a week prior to opening night to avoid all the typos that ended up in this one.

Silent Football

Yesterday we played the game silent football as a class. I was working on another project at the beginning of the class, so i came into the game after it had been taught to the group by another student. This game was beyond confusing. What i picked up from it is that there are very specific rules about hand placement, speaking, and some point system for each time you messed up. Other than that it seemed like a complete power trip for the leader of the game, who when being spoken to had to be addressed as “master of the skies and trees” or something similar to that that no one could ever properly say. Every time the invisible “ball” was passed to me i just hit one of my legs and sent it to the person next to me. It was frustrating and i’m sure i’m not the only person who feeled like pulling their hair out.

As a whole i can’t think of any benefit that came from playing this game, other than seeing people make fools out of themselves by having to spell their name out using their butt. I hope i never play this game again in my life.

One Act Program

Today i finished the program for the senior directed programs. The process was beyond stressful. Coordinating with twelve different one acts, nineteen different directors, the average of 3 to 4 people per cast, the teacher… way too much was going on. Each director was responsible for an autobiography, and a synopsis for their show. I then took pictures of each director/ director pair and another picture of their cast which then was put into the program or put on the poster. This was the most complicated program i have made to date. Usually with Jane controlling all the actors things are done properly and somewhat on time. But this time since basically every director was in charge of their own time and organization no one wanted to cooperate with me until it was down to the wire. I probably invested over twenty hours on this project. We had to send the cover to the Portland Public School Imaging Center downtown for color prints, this was a major part of the complication. Doing things myself i feel in control and not as stressed, having to trust someone else to do things the way i want them solely from an online print order and its directions really put me over the edge. Thinking back i would have been more strict with the directors. However, since H1N1 was going around at the same time that i was needing full casts, the neglect that the program got was inevitable. Two anxiety attacks, and a full black ink cartridge later i can say that the program is a success. And one of the best Cleveland has seen.

Research Assignment

I would be interested to look into the possibility of doing ballet. Preferably the Russian ballet Sleeping Beauty that was choreographed by Marius Petipa, and the score was composed by Pyotr Tchaikovsky (Russians). The ballet was based off of Charles Perrault’s La Belle au bois Dormant (French). This would combine both French storytelling and Russian dance and would be a way of studying how other cultures interpret one another.

Since it is a ballet there would not be a script, however i could find an English translation of the story and use that as a script.
